Long Term Airport Parking Tips: Pros and Cons

If you are planning to book long term parking at the airport then it would be a good idea to call for current prices. Many people that are planning a trip tend to forget about the steps involved with parking your vehicle. For instance, people will be organized with packing, trip itinerary and having tickets on hand but unorganized when it comes to setting up car arrangements. It will take around an hour of research, making a couple of phone calls or reserving a spot.

In addition, a phone call to the airport or visiting the website will provide update information on parking rates, availability and reservations. One disadvantage of long term parking is that airport parking can be expensive compared to off site parking. Some airports can charge as much as $33.00 for the first 24 hours and $66.00 for the next $48.00. At the end of forty eight hours, it’s possible that the driver is charged $6.00 for every eight hour period. On the other hand, the rates are often cheaper at an off site parking facility. Keep in mind that airports tends to have limited parking spaces for long term parking. It can be hard to get a parking space during busy seasons like major holidays and college breaks.

It can be confusing sometimes because in one way parking long-term at the airport can be more convenient- it is so close! Yet, you will actually be dropped off right in front of terminal if you park off-site at a private facility. What if you are running late? Then parking at the airport is usally faster as you won’t have to wait for the shuttle bus since many are walking distance. How much luggage do you have? If you don’t have much getting from the long-term parking lot to the terminal usually is not a big deal. However, if you use the economy parking lot at airports, many times you will be taking a bus.

The type of parking that’s needed for a trip will be determined by the length of the trip. It’s best to be organized and plan ahead when deciding on parking at the airport. Do you like having your car right at airport in case there is a long delay or you get back at an unexpected time?

When I have a lot of luggage it’s always easier to park off-site because they will drop you off right out front and the walk from some airports to the terminals can take a while . My back is bad so I have to be careful.

Caculating the week rate can help for long term parking because I try to compare off-site and on-site and the inconvenience of walking at the airport from getting the shuttle and other factors. In the winter, I usually use the private off-site parking lots because they will be right out front of terminal.

It can be a pretty long hike to the airport from where you park the car and sometimes the wait for the airport buses can take a while so I prefer offsite parking too.
