How to Make Airport Travel Have the Least Amount of Hassles

Airport travel is a day of constant watchfulness . If you have kids, you need to bring sufficient entertainment items and of course keep track of where they are at all times. There may be a nagging fear about whether your luggage will be lost. Worries about connecting flights and weather can also be in one’s mind. What are the best ways to make your airport travel the best it can be?

First of all, remember you are going to a new location and it is going to hopefully be enjoyable! The time dealing with the airport can be easiest with preparation. If you are travelling with kids, bring different snacks as it can get quite costly in the airport. This doesn’t mean you can’t grab a meal at the airport food court, but the kids will want snacks on the flight and probably sitting at the gate as well.

Make sure that kids have their own magazines, books and/or music devices so there won’t be a lot of fighting. It is easy to get bored at the airport and competitiveness seems to get worse during times when people are irritable and impatient. Remember to have the right sized batteries for the electronic devices you are using. Dead batteries are not fun and can ruin the entertainment planned for air travel.

For yourself, don’t worry too much and anticipate things that are unlikely to happen. For instance, lost luggage is not common. Sometimes luggage can be delayed, but this often is due to people checking in too close to the time of their flights. Put your name on a piece of paper inside luggage too and don’t just rely on the baggage bar code tape to identify you.

Charge your phone ahead of time so you can make calls in case there are delays. It can be nerve wracking trying to fine a place to plug in your cell phone and if there are weather delays, there may be many people needing to call loved ones to change pick up times.

If you are going away for a vacation, try to check out some of the spots in the area to find out when they are open. You don’t want to drive to a zoo or a museum to find out it’s closed that day or doesn’t open till noon. Spontaneity is fun, but try to plan too in order to get the most out of your time.

When I fly in summer I wear flip flops because that makes airport travel really fast through security. Also, I don’t wear a belt or put change in my pocket because that is just more time wasted on line going through airport security checks.

I have found that dead batteries are definitely an additional hassle when travelling with kids in airports. I put in fresh ones the night before into the devices the kids bring because otherwise they get into fighting at the flight gates over who gets what.
